A University of Dubuque student received non-life-threatening injuries after a helicopter crash Tuesday afternoon in Independence. A report from the Independence Fire Department says that officials were called about 4:15 for a crash involving a UD helicopter. When authorities got to the Independence Municipal Airport, they found the helicopter had significant damage and there was damage to a nearby hangar. Officials reported one person was taken to an area hospital – and a University of Dubuque spokesperson said the student was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries after the crash. This incident is under investigation by Independence Police and the Federal Aviation Administration.
