An Alert Day has been issued for tonight and Saturday for southern Wisconsin. A mix of rain and snow will develop this morning and eventually change to all snow later tonight. Far southeast Wisconsin will see the rain/snow mix linger longer into Saturday. A Winter Weather Advisory starts at midnight tonight for most of the area.

A mix of wet, heavy snow and rain will be falling this afternoon across southern Wisconsin. This will cause any untreated roads to become slushy and slippery. The precipitation will likely slow the evening commute.

A change over to all snow is expected tonight for Dane county and areas to the north and west. Some light accumulations of 1-3″ will be possible by Saturday morning. Snow will continue through the morning and afternoon on Saturday with additional accumulations. There will likely be a band of heavier snow accumulations across southcentral Wisconsin, but the exact location of this band is tough to pinpoint at this time. Total accumulations will range from 1-7″, with the lightest amounts NW of Dane county and also in far SE WI.

Strong northerly winds will usher in colder air behind this storm. Highs will be just below the freezing point for most of next week. This means that any snow that accumulates will likely stick around for several days.
