CAMBRIA, Wis. — The 52-year-old Waupun man whose body was recovered from a grain silo at Didion Milling has been identified.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Randal Rote was found dead Dec. 8 after the employee was reported missing that morning in Cambria. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has launched another investigation at Didion Milling as a result.
Rote was a Madison native who graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1986. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in technical agriculture at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where he also met his future wife.
Rote enjoyed being a mentor for girls’ softball and participating in rodeo events with his brother and family. He lived in El Paso, Illinois for 18 years, where he raised his family and made lifelong friends before moving back to Wisconsin on December 2018.
“There was no greater fan or father like Randy,” his obituary reads. “Randy’s life was full of fun and love and could never be summed up in a few paragraphs. He lived a life that was a story of great adventure. He will live on in all the ones he loved.”
