MADISON, Wis. — Officers used Narcan after a man lost consciousness in police custody following a burglary Sunday morning at a Madison restaurant, according to a release by the city’s police department.
Officers were dispatched to the Wonder Bar Steakhouse on Olin Ave. around 3:30 a.m. after someone was spotted inside the restaurant on surveillance cameras.
Police aid a man was spotted running from the restaurant toward the field outside the Alliant Energy Center. Responding officers, including a team from the Maple Bluff Police Department’s K9 unit, arrested Alejandro Jose Reyes Mencia.
Police said they found heroin and cocaine pipes on Reyes Mencia while he was in custody. Officers said the 25-year-old also lost consciousness and stopped breathing while in the back of a square car.
Officers began live-saving measures and administered Narcan, the release said. Reyes Mencia was taken to a local hospital for evaluation before being booked into the Dane County Jail.
He faces several tentative charges of possession of heroin and burglary.
Police believe Reyes Mencia was also involved in several other burglaries at businesses in the S. Park Street area, the release said.
