MADISON, Wis. — Members of the Dane County Board are asking area residents to celebrate the holiday season only with members of their households as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
Despite a recent decrease in the number of new daily COVID-19 cases in Dane County, officials say social distancing and mask wearing are still important efforts needed to decrease numbers further.
“It’s a difficult sacrifice to miss spending time with our loved ones this holiday season,” Supervisor Holly Hatcher (District 26) said. “But the most loving thing we can do is stay home to protect them so we can hopefully all celebrate together in the future.”
While distancing during the holidays can be taxing, Board members said taking care of your mental and physical health is especially important as the pandemic continues, and Dane County’s 26 parks, 20 wildlife areas and miles of trails are open to the public.
“In this time of isolation and uncertainty, it is more important than ever to get fresh air and sunshine,” Supervisor Dave Ripp (District 29) said. “Bundle up and get outside. We are fortunate to have beautiful county parks that offer multiple opportunities for recreation.”
Despite the colder weather, there are still activities to take advantage of during the wintertime. Dane County’s parks and trails are open to snowshoeing, skiing, hiking and other winter-friendly activities.
