MADISON, Wis. — A Madison resident was displaced after an apartment fire in the downtown area on Saturday morning, according to an incident report.
An MFD engine responded to The Basset Warehouse Apartments on N. Bedford Street around 7:30 a.m. for an alarm investigation, which then escalated to a full fire response after residents reported smoke in the hallway.
Firefighters entered the three-story apartment building on the first floor and encountered flames and heavy smoke, the report said. Fire crews worked quickly to locate and extinguish the fire.
Although the resident was not home at the time of the fire, they have been displaced due to smoke and fire damages. The American Red Cross is assisting the apartment’s resident.
Total damages to the apartment are estimated at $20,000, the report said. The cause of the fire is under investigation, although the fire was not found in the kitchen area.
