MADISON, Wis.– Whether it’s a present needing to be returned or a wish list item left unchecked, Hilldale Mall saw no shortage of shoppers the day after Christmas.
“We were surprised that so many people came out so early in the morning,” Marketing Manager Julia Hix said.
Hix said there’s one gift that stood out among the rest this year.
“Every store and restaurant told us that gift card sales were overwhelming,” Hix said. “People not only buying them as gifts, but buying them as a way to support the businesses.”
Hix said shoppers might want to consider using those gift cards soon.
“There’s a ton of really good sales going on at most of the stores,” Hix said. “They’re working really hard to clear out their inventory to get ready for the next season.”
Returning a present might take a little longer this year to accommodate for COVID-19 restrictions.
“Many (stores) are offering virtual appointments, private appointments. You can save your spot in line or have a time slot waiting for you so you don’t have to get here and wait outside in the cold. A few (stores) are offering curbside returns,” Hix said.
Hix recommended checking the store’s website before arriving to choose the fastest option.
Extended holiday shopping hours will last throughout the week at Hilldale Mall. The mall is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. After the holiday, the mall will switch to shorter winter hours.
