MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin is on track to surpass 500,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 by the end of the week, according to the latest numbers from state and county health officials.
An additional 3,834* new cases of the virus were recorded Thursday, bringing the all-time total to 498,839* confirmed cases. The seven-day average of new cases per day is at 2,490, the highest it’s been since Dec. 24.
According to data from the state Department of Health Services, the majority of counties in Wisconsin remain at “very high” activity levels for disease spread. Menominee County, which is also the state’s least populous county, has been labelled with a “critically high” activity level.

At least 5,177* Wisconsinites have died since March, with 56 new deaths confirmed Thursday. DHS officials said 99 people have been hospitalized in the past day. Out of the state’s 11,052 hospital beds, 16% are available for new patients.
The seven-day positivity rate stayed about the same at 31.9%, and the seven-day equivalent went down slightly to 11.4%.

To date, over 1 million COVID-19 tests have been administered by the Wisconsin National Guard.
