MADISON, Wis. — Residents at SSM Health St. Mary’s Care Center are now being vaccinated.
Vaccinations at the care center started Thursday. Residents are receiving Moderna’s vaccine thanks to a federal program that partners care facilities with pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens. The vaccinations at St. Mary’s Care Center are being provided and administered by Walgreens.
“Our residents and their families are ecstatic,” St. Mary’s Care Center Administrator Karen Hayden said. “I’ve been in long term care for just about 30 years now. This is life-changing. We’re seeing light at the end of the tunnel.”
Hayden said nearly all of the residents at the care center have expressed interest in getting vaccinated. More than 120 of them received their first dose on Thursday.
Walgreens’ vaccination team will return to the care center in 4 weeks to administer second doses.
