DANE COUNTY, Wis. — An ongoing COVID-19 outbreak at the Department of Correction’s Oakhill Correctional Institution in Dane County is responsible for more than 400 positive cases over the past few weeks, Public Health Madison & Dane County (PHMDC) officials report.
Two more prisoners have died, bringing the total of COVID-19 inmate deaths in the state to 25.
As of Thursday, the Wisconsin DOC’s coronavirus dashboard reported 205 active cases and a cumulative total of 54 staff cases at OCI in Dane County. There’s been 398 inmate positive tests at the facility in total.
The Oregon minimum security facility employs more than 250 staff members and had a population of about 650 at the end of the 2020 fiscal year in June, according to DOC reports.
There’s been more than 10,000 positive tests since last March among Wisconsin prisoners, and active cases reached their peak in mid to late fall of 2020. Currently, the system has its lowest number of active positive cases since mid-September.
