MADISON, Wis. — More than half of Dane County residents who tested positive for COVID-19 in the past two weeks lived outside of Madison, according to new data from public health officials.
Public Health Madison & Dane County said 59% of the county’s cases from Dec. 22 to Jan. 4 were not Madison residents. The county’s overall rate of cases was 43 cases per 10,000 people.
Officials said nine municipalities in the county had case rates that were “significantly” higher than the county rate, with Fitchburg and Cottage Grove having much higher rates now compared to one week ago.
