MADISON, Wis. — More than one in four people in Dane County have now received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to county health officials.
New data updated by Public Health Madison and Dane County shows 26.1% of the county is partially vaccinated, while 15.4% of residents are considered fully vaccinated. PHMDC says current estimates are that vaccination rates between 60 and 90% will be needed to achieve herd immunity from the coronavirus.
The vast majority of people aged 65 and older in the county have also received at least one dose of the vaccine. As of Wednesday, county numbers show 84.2% of that population have received at least one shot.
Statewide, more than 2 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine have been given, with 22.4% of people across the state getting at least one dose.
