MADISON, Wis. — UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank and other UW System officials toured the COVID-19 vaccine clinic on campus Tuesday as the university says it has now given out almost 10,500 doses to date.
Blank, UW System President Tommy Thompson and Board of Regents President Andrew S. Peterson were among those who toured UW-Madison’s clinic at the Nicholas Recreation Center.
“It gives me hope to see our students, staff and faculty here today playing their part to end the pandemic,” Blank said in a statement. “We are all looking forward to being back in person again and this is how we get there.”
Nicknamed “The Nick,” the rec center became a vaccination site for University Health Services in February.

UW-Madison says more than 10,000 members of its community have reported getting at least one dose of the vaccine, either from the campus clinic or elsewhere. Those who become fully vaccinated will no longer have to follow campus surveillance testing and will get an exemption through the Safer Badgers app.
Vaccination is not currently required at UW-Madison, but Thompson encouraged everyone involved in the UW System to get the shot when it’s offered to them.
“It gives you a new lease on life. It helps prevent the virus from making you sick, it protects your friends and family, and you feel really good after,” Thompson said.
