MADISON, Wis. — Madison police are releasing more information related to a string of alleged robberies by a group of teenagers using a stolen car Thursday afternoon.
Police say it started with a car being stolen from a gas station on N. 3rd Street at about 2:46 p.m. Thursday.
From there, police say a 70-year-old woman reported being shoved and having her purse stolen as she was walking into the Walmart on Watts Road on Madison’s west side at about 4 p.m. The person who stole her purse got into the car that was previously stolen and drove off.
A little less than an hour later, a 42-year-old woman said a teenager approached her car at the Target at Hilldale and stole her backpack out of the car before getting into the same car that had been involved in the Walmart incident.
The car was later found by police, but sped off before ultimately crashing at Pheasant Ridge, just off of Rimrock Road south of the Beltline. Police say a 12-year-old, 15-year-old, 17-year-old and 18-year-old are facing charges in connection with the stolen car and robberies.
As a general policy, News 3 Now does not name minors who are accused of a crime until they are officially charged as an adult. The 18-year-old arrested is Marcus L. Brinkley, who faces adult charges of strong armed robbery, bail jumping, and being a passenger in a stolen car.
