MONROE, Wis. — Authorities say one person is dead after a rollover crash just outside of Monroe in Green County.
The Green County Sheriff’s Office says they were called to State Highway 59 just east of Greenbush Road at 6:12 a.m. Wednesday, along with the Monroe Rural Fire Department and Green County EMS. The road was closed for several hours as they investigated.
Deputies found what they described as a “badly damaged” pickup truck at the scene, and the body of a man in a field several hundred feet from the highway.
Based on their initial investigation, the Sheriff’s Office says the man was heading east on Highway 59 when he failed to negotiate a curve and flipped as he left the road. The man was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the truck as it rolled.
Authorities believe the crash happened sometime late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning and was not discovered until daylight on Wednesday.
The victim’s name will be released once family can be notified. This is the first fatal crash in Green County this year.
