NEWARK, Wis. — Officials have identified the Rock County woman who was killed in a car crash Sunday afternoon.
The single-vehicle crash happened on the 8100 block of West State Road 81 in the town of Newark, according to a news release Monday.
Authorities said a driver was heading westbound on State Highway 81 near County Highway H and was going too fast while driving around a curve. Deputies said the person’s vehicle went into the other lane and struck a tree after rolling over into a ditch.
Malerie Schupbach, 34, of Beloit, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office completed a forensic examination Monday, with preliminary results showing Schupbach died from injuries she suffered in the crash. Officials said she had not been wearing a seat belt.
Additional testing is underway. The Rock County Sheriff’s Office and Rock County Medical Examiner’s Department are continuing to investigate the death.
