SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. – The nationwide bus driver shortage continues, and many local bus companies are dealing with the impacts of that shortage.
Kobussen Buses in Sun Prairie is looking for more drivers. Recruiter Kristin Ward says it is a challenge to hire school bus drivers because there are some hurdles to get past before you can really see how much fun you can have on the job.
Ward says in order to drive a school bus, you have to take five multiple choice tests at the DMV to obtain a learner’s permit, spend time with a trainer to learn how to pre-trip and drive the bus, and then you have to take a behind the wheel test.
The size of the bus can also be intimidating to potential drivers. Because of this, Ward says they offer anybody who is interested in driving a school bus, the opportunity to visit one of their terminals and do a test drive around the parking lot. You can find more information on their website.
