JANESVILLE, Wis. — A home and barn near Janesville are total losses following a fire Monday afternoon.
A news release said the Janesville Fire Department was sent to 4829 W County Trunk A west of the city for a report of a barn/shed fire.
The first units who arrived said the fire was “fully involved” and driven by the wind. The flames extended to a nearby house located on the property.
The National Weather Service said winds at the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport were at 20 mph during the time of the fire, with gusts reaching as high as 40 mph.
The release said no one was in the house during the fire, as it was under renovation. The home and barn were considered total losses, along with a vehicle, two boats and camper trailer. Officials said there was an estimated $500,000 in damages.
One firefighter was taken to a hospital and treated for heat exhaustion but was later released. No one else was hurt.
The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
