GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers have selected Eric Stokes as their first-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft.

The defensive back from Georgia was chosen as the 29th overall pick late Thursday night. Stokes had 20 tackles, four interceptions and four pass break-ups in 2020.

The draft selection was arguably not even the biggest Packers news of the day, as a report from ESPN claims quarterback Aaron Rodgers is “disgruntled” with Green Bay and does not want to return to the team.
Despite the report, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said the team is “committed to Aaron in 2021 and beyond.”
As far as the rest of the NFL draft, the beginning brought little suspense with it: the top three picks were all quarterbacks.
Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence went to the Jacksonville Jaguars to get things started. He was followed by BYU’s Zach Wilson going to the New York Jets and North Dakota State’s Trey Lance landing with the San Francisco 49ers.
That matched 1971 and 1999 as the only drafts with quarterbacks taken as the top three picks.
Commissioner Roger Goodell was on hand to dispense greetings to players being selected in front of fans in Cleveland. Last year’s draft was conducted virtually because of the pandemic.
The second and third rounds of the draft will take place Friday, while the remaining rounds will happen Saturday.
