The Mount Horeb man accused of killing a man on the side of a Dane County road has been found not fit for trial and will undergo treatment. According to reports, 21-year-old Riley Berg a former UW-Platteville student, had a competency hearing Tuesday on a 1st-degree homicide charge related to the death of 26-year-old Nicholas Day. Berg was found “not competent but likely to be restored.” The court has ordered Berg be treated to possibly regain competency. Riley was being held at the Dane County Jail, but he has been moved to the Mendota Mental Health facility. Day was killed in the town of Blue Mounds on January 15th. Authorities called the killing an “extremely brutal homicide and very calculated.” The case is now suspended following the incompetency finding at Tuesday’s hearing.
