MADISON, Wis. — One person was killed Friday morning after being hit by a semi-truck while walking on the interstate, according to Wisconsin State Patrol officials.
Authorities said they were first notified of a crash with injuries on I-39/90/94 just north of the interchange with Highway 151 shortly before 4 a.m.
When they responded to the scene, troopers said they found a pedestrian dead. An initial investigation revealed the pedestrian had been walking in the southbound lanes of the interstate for an unknown reason when they were hit by a semi.
Officials said the semi truck driver stopped at the scene and is cooperating with law enforcement.
The southbound lanes of the interstate were closed as law enforcement conducted their investigation.
Madison emergency medical services and firefighters, Madison police, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office helped with the response.
