MILWAUKEE — The City of Milwaukee will be putting an end to the city’s mask mandate and capacity limits on June 1.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett made the announcement Tuesday, according to WDJT-TV. The end of the health order in Wisconsin’s most populous city will come one day before Dane County scraps its own mask requirement.
With the latest mask-wearing guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention coming as a surprise to many, Barrett said he wanted to give businesses enough time to make adjustments and decide whether they want to keep enforcing the use of masks after the city’s mandate is lifted.
“When the Centers for Disease Control announced that vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks, I felt, as did the health commissioner, that just as we have at every critical point along the way followed the CDC guidance, we would continue to follow the CDC guidance,” Barrett said.
Nearly 40% of Milwaukee residents are fully vaccinated.
