STOUGHTON, Wis. — A Stoughton Area High School student is in custody after they reportedly brought an unloaded gun and knife to school in mid-May.
According to Molly Shea, the Stoughton Area School District spokesperson, the student was taken into custody on May 14.
Students and staff were never in danger the day of the incident, according to the district.
“We take the safety and security of our students and staff very seriously, and again, at no time were students or staff in danger,” Shea said in a statement to News 3 Now.
The school district decided not to release the information sooner “due to student confidentiality, their right to due process, and the fact that the student is a minor.”
In an email to families, district officials encouraged students and guardians to download the Speak Up, Speak Out anonymous tip app to help catch incidents in the future.
