PORTAGE, Wis. — The man accused of breaking into a Columbia County home and killing a man he didn’t know is entering pleas of not guilty.
Jason Kijewski waived his right to a preliminary hearing and stood mute in Columbia County court Wednesday, with not guilty pleas on charges of first degree intentional homicide and armed burglary with a dangerous weapon entered on his behalf.
Kijewski is being accused of shooting and killing Keith Wolf in the basement of Wolf’s home in the Town of Leeds in September 2019.
The case went without an arrest for nearly a year and a half before Kijewski, who is from West Allis, was arrested in March.
He allegedly told investigators he randomly picked Wolf’s home to burglarize and shot him when Wolf confronted him in the home’s basement. Wolf’s wife told police he went down to the basement to investigate after the two heard a noise while they were watching TV upstairs.
Kijewski says he did not plan on killing anyone when he broke into the home, did not know Wolf before that incident and had never even been in Columbia County before that night.
A medical examiner ruled Wolf died from a gunshot to the head.
Kijewski is due back in court for a status conference on July 29th. He’s currently being held on a $2 million bond.
