MADISON, Wis. — More than 1,000 University of Wisconsin System nursing and pharmacy students have earned tuition credit by working at COVID-19 vaccination sites.
The UW System announced in January that any nursing and pharmacy students who worked at COVID-19 vaccination sites could earn a $500 tuition credit while getting in-the-field experience. UW System President Tommy Thompson announced Friday that a total of 1,042 nursing and pharmacy students participated in the program.
“When our communities needed them, our students stepped up to help us beat back the pandemic,” Thompson said. “I am so very proud of them, and I am very grateful to the excellent nursing and pharmacy faculty, staff, and deans who helped make this possible.”
The UW System is also offering a second vaccination credit opportunity during the summer, from May 23 to Aug. 31.
To qualify, students must be enrolled in a nursing or pharmacy program during the 2021 summer or fall semesters, must work a minimum of 16 hours as a COVID-19 vaccinator between May 23 and Aug. 31, and must have a current professional or nursing license with authorization to provide vaccination service.
Students interested in the program should contact their dean’s office.
