MADISON, Wis. — We all want to transition to a post-pandemic life, but psychologists say it might not be that easy for everyone.
Americans are still reporting extremely high levels of stress about the pandemic, according to the American Psychological Association. But as vaccination rates increase and the end of the pandemic is in sight, the type of stress people are having is changing.
“People are experiencing no-mask anxiety,” UW Health psychologist Dr. Shilagh Mirgain says. “Many people are feeling a sense of unease with doing that. We want to approach this at a slow pace, give yourself permission to take it at your own time.”
Experts say it’s normal to have a sense of anxiety and uncertainty about adjusting to a new normal. The best advice they have: commit to still being cautious, but try not to avoid all social situations.
