MADISON, Wis. — Dane County is the last county in the state to remove its mask mandate. Health officials say the county’s vaccination rate made them feel comfortable removing restrictions.
Now that nearly 60% of the county is fully vaccinated and hospitalization rates have remained stable, many people are letting out a sigh of relief. Including those invested in Madison’s business community.
Local leaders like Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce President Zach Brandon said the community’s willingness to step up and get vaccinated could make all the difference for local businesses.
“That sends a signal to every business that they can go out and invest. That sends a signal that employees can go back to work,” Brandon said. “That sends a signal to the public that they can go out and feel safe while they shop and dine.”
The county’s impressive vaccination rate also means many popular outdoor events can return to their pre-pandemic set ups. The Dane County Farmers’ Market announced Wednesday the beloved market will return to the Capitol Square on June 19.
