WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. — A Baraboo man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly led authorities on a high speed chase following an attempted robbery.
Sauk County dispatchers first received a report of a disturbance at Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells at around 1 p.m. The caller told officials the suspect left the casino in a car and was possibly armed with a handgun.
Shortly after, a deputy found the car heading southbound on Fox Hill Road near Terry Town Road in the village of West Baraboo.
Officials said the car rapidly accelerated when the deputy tried to pull over the driver. The release said the deputy ended the chase because of the person’s reckless driving.
The car was later found in West Baraboo by a Sauk County detective who saw the driver stop the vehicle and get out. A Baraboo police officer and Sauk County deputies found the suspect and arrested him following a search of the area.
Anthony Wilson, 28, was arrested and brought to the Sauk County Jail. Officials said charges of fleeing and eluding an officer, attempted robbery with the threat of force and substantial battery will be referred to the Sauk County District Attorney’s Office. Wilson was also arrested on a probation hold through the state Department of Corrections.
Deputies continued to search the area after Wilson’s arrest and found a loaded handgun hidden behind a nearby home, according to the release.
An investigation is ongoing, with more charges for Wilson expected. The sheriff’s office has received help with the investigation from Baraboo police and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Those with more information on the incident are encouraged to call Sauk County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-847-7285.
