MIDDLETON, Wis. — Health officials are reminding people about the dangers of keeping children in vehicles as the temperatures increase.
They said the body temperatures of children heat up three to five times faster than adults. So at what temperature should children not be in the car by themselves?
“Fifty-seven degrees,” said Meriter nurse practitioner Joana Huibregtse. “Which sounds so silly and cool and pleasant, but cars can heat up really rapidly beyond that temperature so it’s really important to be mindful of that.”
Experts said a car’s temperature can rise 20 degrees in as little as 10 minutes.
