SPARTA, Wis. — Monroe County authorities are sharing more details about a homicide in the Town of Sparta.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man killed in the Sunday night attack as 87-year-old Bernard Waite.
According to a press release, Waite and two others were attacked by a man wielding an axe. Waite died at the scene, and the two others were taken to a local hospital for injuries they suffered in the attack.
One of the victims remains hospitalized with serious injuries, and the other was treated for her injuries and released.
Authorities took the suspect into custody when they arrived at the scene and transported him to a hospital for a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officials said Waite was related to the attacker, but did not specify how.
