ROCK COUNTY, Wis. — A 32-year-old Illinois man was arrested Tuesday night after a crime spree in Rock County.
According to a news release, Bryan R. Burns, of Roscoe, Illinois, was taken into custody by Rock County and Winnebago (Illinois) County deputies near the stateline.
The release said Burns was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries sustained during the spree.
Officials first responded to a hit and run complaint on State Highway 140 in the Town of Bradford around 4:20 p.m.
About two hours later, deputies were dispatched to a crash in the Town of Newark, where a witness said one driver had stolen a car from a person who had stopped to help at the crash scene.
At the same time, the release said officers received a call about a person breaking into a home in the Town of Magnolia. The car at the crash scene was later determined to have been stolen from that home.
Deputies later found Burns had broken into the Magnolia home by discharging a shotgun into the locking mechanism. He also allegedly assaulted two people inside the home before stealing their car.
Around 8 p.m., the car stolen from the State Highway 81 crash was located in a ditch in Winnebago County, Illinois.
Burns was found in a marshy area near the crash.
He was arrested on suspicion of robbery while armed. More charges are expected.
Burns has not made his initial appearance in court.
