MADISON, Wis. — The Madison Metropolitan School District plans to return to in-person learning, five-days a week for the 2021-2022 school year.
District leaders made the announcement late Thursday afternoon. They say a virtual option will still be available to students.
“The full reopening of schools is a day the entire community has been waiting for,” said Carlton D. Jenkins, Superintendent. “It has always been our preference to have all students learning in-person, connecting face to face with teachers and classmates, and benefiting from learning in a classroom environment.”
Administrators are in the process of finalizing the district’s mask policy and other safety protocols for the fall. They will update parents on these policies in a few weeks.
The district announced an all virtual start to the current school year last summer.
It began a phased return to in-person learning this spring. Kindergarten students were the first to return on March 9, while other grade levels transitioned back on a weekly basis through the end of April. Most middle and high school students attended two full days in-person and had two full days of virtual education. Grade school students typically had four full days of in-person instruction.
