Wisconsin slowly approaching 50% of residents at least partially vaccinated

MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsinites are creeping closer and closer to reaching another major vaccination milestone.

The latest vaccination data from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services indicates that 48.9% of the state’s population, a total of 2,849,241 people, has gotten at least one COVID-19 shot. Just over 11,200 people were vaccinated within the past day. Statewide, 43.8% of residents have finished their vaccination series. That’s a total of 2,551,126 people.

To date, health care workers have administered a total of 5,330,836 doses since the state’s vaccination efforts began late last year.

The latest vaccination data comes alongside a steady seven-day average for new COVID cases statewide. On Friday, DHS health officials said the state’s seven-day average for new cases dropped to 121, a decrease of eight from Thursday’s data. To date, testing has confirmed at least 611,534 cases of the coronavirus.

The state’s seven-day average for percent positive by test dipped slightly Friday to 1.1% from the 1.2% average reported Thursday.

Health officials also noted Friday a slight drop in the state’s seven-day average for new deaths, dropping to two from the average of three reported Thursday. A total of 7,206 Wisconsinites have died from COVID-19 complications since the start of the pandemic.
