ROCKFORD, Ill. — A local woman is receiving the care she needs after a COVID diagnosis, a 3-month stay in the hospital and a Call for Action to help her fight her insurance company for coverage.
Karen Nelson’s daughter, Tanya Williams, called for action after insurance company Aetna denied her transfer to a rehabilitation center to recover from long-term COVID symptoms. Williams said Nelson needed the care to learn how to walk and talk again. After a call from Call for Action’s Leah Linscheid, the insurance company reversed course and approved her transer.
Leah caught up with Karen for the first time to celebrate her one-month stay in rehabilitation. Take a listen to their conversation.
