MADISON, Wis. — Coronavirus testing and vaccine clinics at the Alliant Energy Center will officially be ending June 26, public health officials announced Monday, but those efforts will continue on a smaller scale elsewhere in Madison.
The first test at the site was administered on May 11, 2020, while the first vaccine dose was given on December 29. Since then, about 425,000 coronavirus tests have been conducted and 83,000 doses of the vaccine have been given at the arena.
“It has been our honor to provide these critical services to the community year-round throughout this pandemic,” Public Health Madison & Dane County director Janel Heinrich said in a statement. “Our staff has put in thousands of hours of work, day in and day out to meet the evolving needs of our community and slow the spread of COVID-19.”
A total of 150 people worked through the pandemic to provide those services. The Wisconsin National Guard and FEMA also provided support at various points in the pandemic.
