MADISON, Wis. — The Madison Fire Department says illegal fireworks caused a patch of grass off Pheasant Ridge Trail to catch fire over the weekend.
Firefighters were called to the area of 2600 Pheasant Ridge Trail just after 1 p.m. Saturday after people called 911 to report the fire was spreading to nearby trees and buildings.
Fire crews were on scene about 10 minutes later and found a 50-foot by 20-foot area with active spotty fires. It took two engines and about 600 gallons of water with foam concentrate to put out the fire.
As part of the investigation, firefighters found a smoldering pile of fireworks in a nearby parking lot. Police in the Town of Madison are looking for the people who were responsible for setting off the fireworks.
The depeartment says the fire was put out before anyone was hurt or any property was damanged.
