BELOIT, Wis. — People who have been out of their homes for three long nights will need to spend at least one more night elsewhere – that’s the message from the health department in Rockton, Illinois.
Health officials held a press conference at South Beloit High School on Thursday night to update the community on potential risks in the air, ground and water after the Chemtool fire.
The air quality remains stable and is below dangerous levels. Officials have sent sand, ash and water samples to the Environment Protection Agency and are awaiting for the samples to return, with much of the information expected to arrive Friday morning.
Officials also discussed the falling debris which came from the building and said more than half of the samples have come back as negative contaminants, though officials still warn the public not to touch them.
