MADISON, Wis.– A Father’s Day tradition returned to Mt. Horeb, and despite the rain, around 50 people came to celebrate.
The annual “Bring Your Pop to Pop’s Knoll” picnic was held at Donald Park today. The event has been at the park for close to 20 years. It’s in honor of Delma Donald Woodburn, the wife of the original “Pop.” Woodburn frequented the park with her own family, and donated 106 acres of land for it in 1993.
Organizers say that it’s Woodburn’s legacy that inspired them to start the picnic event.
“We looked back on this history and said y’know, we’d like to do something special to honor their tradition and their celebration of the land,” said Donna Thomas, secretary of the Friends of Donald Park Board of Directors.
Today’s gathering featured hot dogs, root beer floats, live music, and a scavenger hunt.
