MADISON, Wis. — The Boys & Girls Club of Dane County is planning to launch a new fund to continue support for its educational programs, including a workforce center that will teach young people about skilled trades and entrepreneurship.
BGCDC officials announced Monday they plan to launch a $35 million fundraising campaign to support the programs. The announcement came alongside news that the BGCDC received a $5 million grant from the Pleasant T. Rowland Foundation to put toward the workforce center, which is scheduled to open in the summer of 2022.
“This amazing gift from Pleasant Rowland will anchor the impact of Boys & Girls Clubs and will create economic opportunities for so many young people in our community,” said Michael Johnson, President & CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County.
The funds will be used to cover operating expenses and technical training to get youth prepared for jobs as electricians, carpenters, plumbers, HVAC technicians and more.
As part of a partnership with owner of McKenzie Apartment Company John McKenzie, the BGCDC will run its skilled trades and entrepreneurship programs out of a 17,000 square foot facility that will be donated by McKenzie. In addition, the BGCDC has partnered with McKenzie and the Madison Area Builders Association for a program that will match young people with jobs in the construction industry.
Those interested in helping support the workforce center can donate on the BGCDC website.
