JANESVILLE, Wis. — With the Wisconsin Department of Health Services ramping down operations at multiple community-based COVID vaccination clinics across the state, the clinic at Blackhawk Technical College is beginning to reduce its hours.
Previously, the clinic was open five days per week — Tuesdays through Saturdays — from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
With DHS slowly tapering down the operation of community-based clinics, starting this week, the Blackhawk Technical College site will now be closed on Wednesdays. Hours will remain 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Hours and days of operation will be reduced further in the future based on demand for the vaccine in Rock County, eventually tapering to one or two days per week before ultimately closing the community clinic entirely.
“We know that this clinic has provided convenient and easy access to the vaccine for residents throughout the region and we are very appreciative of our partnership with Blackhawk Technical College to offer space in their facility,” Rock County Health Officer Katrina Harwood said in a statement. “We are working with vaccine providers throughout Rock County to continue mobile clinics, and we will work with our Vaccine Advisory Committee to ensure equitable access.”
The Rock County Health Department says the community vaccination site schedule will be determined on a week-by-week basis, with any changes announced as soon as information is available.
Even after the DHS community clinic closes, people will still be able to get vaccine doses from their local pharmacies, doctors or healthcare providers, other locally-operated community clinics, local health departments, community pop-up clinics, and some employers.
