MONONA, Wis. — Fourth of July fireworks are returning to Monona’s Winnequah Park this summer following a year off because of the pandemic.
Event organizers announced Monday the Monona Community Festival will return July 2-4. The festival will have free live music, a beer garden, art fair, a variety of food carts, carnival rides, and more.
“After a year of missing out on all of the summer events we all love, I am happy to announce that the Monona Festival will be back again this year and even bigger than before,” Monona Festival President Eric Redding said. “To celebrate the return of the event, and a return to some level of normality, we will have the largest fireworks display in Madison on July 4th.”
The fireworks show is scheduled for July 4 at 9:20 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Seating will be available at Winnequah Park on a first come, first served basis.
In addition to fireworks and the other festivities, the festival will also see the return of the Wisconsin Wife Carry Championship, where competitors carry their partner through an obstacle course. The winner get the carried person’s weight in beer. The festival will also host a keg-throwing contest and strength-and-endurance competition.
More information about the Monona Festival is available online.
Madison-area residents will also be able to catch fireworks July 3 at Breese Stevens Field.
