MADISON, Wis. — Gov. Tony Evers called out Senator Ron Johnson on Friday for doubting the safety and effectiveness of coronavirus vaccines.
Evers’ comments come after news broke that Johnson plans to host an event Monday with people who claim to have had adverse reactions to the coronavirus vaccine. Johnson has been repeatedly criticized by medical experts for doubting the proven science of the vaccines.
“The COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective and based on years of science and research,” Evers said on Twitter. “Every time you suggest otherwise, you’re jeopardizing the health and safety of the people of our state and our economic recovery.”
.@SenRonJohnson, you’re being reckless and irresponsible. The #COVID19 vaccine is safe and effective and based on years of science and research. Every time you suggest otherwise, you’re jeopardizing the health and safety of the people of our state and our economic recovery.

Johnson has repeatedly spread misinformation about the effectiveness of the vaccines, leading YouTube to temporarily suspend him from the platform for some of his remarks.
Johnson has not been vaccinated, saying he doesn’t need to because he previously tested positive for the disease.
