Flash flooding is occurring through much of Crawford County. Overnight rainfall may have produced up to a foot of rain in the central and northern portions of the county.
A Flash Flood Warning is in effect until 9:30 AM for northern and central Crawford County until 9:30 AM. This generally covers the area north of Prairie du Chien and Eastman.
Radar estimates of 6-12″ of rain may have fallen in the areas around Mt. Sterling and Gays Mills. Rainfall of 5.56″ was measured just northeast of Eastman at 6:20 AM. A report of around 5″ of rain was received from Readstown, just north of the Crawford/Vernon County line.

Crawford County Emergency Management reports numerous roads closed due to flooding. Some rock slides have been reported along Wisconsin highway 35, and some creeks are out their banks causing flooding.
Most fatalities in flash flooding occur in automobiles trying to cross flooded roads. It takes less than 24″ of water to begin to cause a vehicle to float. If you are driving and see water flowing over the road, turn around and find another way around the flooded area. Do not drive into areas where floodwater covers the road.
