JANESVILLE, Wis. — Rock County authorities have issued a slow-no-wake order for the Rock River ahead of Janesville’s Fourth of July celebrations.
The speed restriction order will be enforced from the West Highway 14 bridge to the West Centerway Street Dam on the Fourth of July from 5 p.m. to midnight.
Rock County officials said they’re putting the order in place because that section of the river becomes chaotic and dangerous because of the large number of boats that gather for the annual fireworks celebration.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will have boat patrol units on the water throughout the day to enforce safety violations, including the slow-no-wake order.
Signs will be posted along the river notifying boaters of the speed restrictions.
