MADISON, Wis. — A Melrose man was arrested Tuesday on charges related to the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
Investigators with the FBI used social media posts and photos from various sources to verify that Joshua Munn and several of his family members entered the Capitol the day of the insurrection. Munn and his family traveled to Washington from Borger, Texas, officials said.
According to an affidavit from the FBI investigator handling the case, Munn sent messages via Facebook messenger saying he entered the building.
“Before you hear it on the news I am I [sic] family marched on DC today it was extremely cool we did enter the Capitol building…” one message reads.
Investigators also said they identified Munn in several photographs shared by family members on Facebook.
According to the affidavit, the FBI initially found out about the Munn family’s activity from a tipster with ties to the family.
The FBI also confirmed Munn was in the Capitol during the insurrection by using cellular records obtained from Verizon via a search warrant.
Munn was expected to make his initial court appearance Tuesday afternoon.
