MADISON, Wis. — The state Department of Corrections is now offering the COVID-19 vaccine to those visiting loved ones at select correctional facilities.
In-person visits resumed July 6 at DOC institutions, the first time since March 2020. Doses will be offered to vaccine-eligible visitors at the following DOC facilities:
- Fox Lake Correctional Institution
- Green Bay Correctional Institution
- Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution
- Racine Youthful Offender Correctional Facility
- Stanley Correctional Institution
- Taycheedah Correctional Institution
“We want to make it as easy as possible for the people of Wisconsin to become vaccinated against COVID-19,” said DOC Secretary Kevin Carr. “The ease of availability, having vaccine available at a site to which you are already travelling, is something this administration hopes people do not pass up.”
To date, 58.8% of Wisconsin’s adult population has completed the vaccine series. That rate is even higher in DOC institutions, with more than two-thirds of the department’s eligible population finishing the vaccine series. As of Thursday afternoon, there are two active COVID cases among people in DOC care.
“Vaccination is the best tool we have to protect ourselves, family members and loved ones from COVID-19,” said DHS Secretary-designee Karen Timberlake.
DOC Health Services staff will administer the vaccine to visitors. Special rules also remain in place to reduce COVID transmission during visits.
