SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — A cooking mishap inside a Sun Prairie home caused more than $100,000 in damage Thursday, according to a news release.
Sun Prairie Fire & Rescue responded to the 2000 block of Wisconsin Avenue for a report of a kitchen fire. Crews arrived and saw heavy smoke coming from two sides of the duplex, though all residents evacuated safely.
Officials quickly knocked down the fire in the kitchen and confirmed the fire had not extended into the attic or other side of the duplex, which did not have any occupants currently living there.
The cause of the fire was deemed an accidental cooking mishap. Officials added that the home had working smoke detectors.
The release said the fire caused an estimated total of $110,000 in damages.
Sun Prairie police helped with traffic control during the incident, while Sun Prairie EMS provided medical support. No injuries were reported.
