MCFARLAND, Wis. — A McFarland man has been accused of drunk driving while in the wrong lane of traffic Wednesday night.
A news release said an officer saw the man’s vehicle on Farwell Street near McFarland High School at around 11:30 p.m. The officer had to make an “evasive maneuver” to avoid a head-on crash with the other vehicle.
The officer made a U-turn and tried to pull the vehicle over. The release said the man continued driving in the wrong lane at slow speeds before finally coming to a stop.
The officer made contact with the driver, 45-year-old Mark Wahl, who said he was in the wrong lane because he was “trying to avoid the bumps and all that.” The officer determined Wahl was drunk after he performed field sobriety tests.
The man was arrested on suspicion of a 4th-offense OWI and operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration. He was also cited for operating a vehicle left of center.
