MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin has recorded more than a thousand new cases of COVID-19 in a single day for the first time in nearly four months.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services recorded 1,058 new cases on Thursday, the highest single-day total since the state reported 1,049 cases on April 8th.
That pushes Wisconsin’s 7-day average for new daily cases to 638 cases per day, continuing a sharp upward trend as state and local health officials worry about the spread of the Delta variant.
Two new COVID-related deaths were also reported on Thursday, the third day in a row two deaths were reported by the state.
Rock County joined Dane County Friday in recommending everyone, regardless of vaccination status, go back to wearing masks indoors as a result of the quickly-rising case counts. Health officers in Rock County say their case counts officially hit the CDC’s threshold for “substantial” COVID transmission on Thursday, prompting their mask advisory.
