MADISON, Wis.– Two years ago this December, Madison entrepreneur Amy Gannon died alongside her 13-year-old daughter Jocelyn in a tragic helicopter crash while on vacation. Amy’s death left a void in not only her family, but the local business community.
This month, our partners at Madison Magazine are launching a series of new awards, The Amys, to honor women like Gannon.
Nominations are now open, and we need your help!
Gannon was a mom, wife, and friend. The co-founder of Doyenne. A professor and interim dean at Edgewood College. And, at her core, a woman who believed in speaking her mind, not backing down, and making room for everyone.
If these characteristics remind you of someone you know, please let us know. The Amys are not only awards, but $1,000 scholarships.
The Strategist will go to a woman who is laying the groundwork for other women to succeed.
The Free-Thinker will go to someone who is challenging the definition of what it means to be a female entrepreneur.
The Teacher will go to a woman who is sharing her skills and mentoring others.
Finally, the $5,000 Amy award will go to a Madison-area startup built by a woman or women.
“We really wanted to capture what Amy was all about,” said Madison Magazine editor Andie Behling. “Part of this is also spotlighting women in the area who are just doing some really cool things.”
The Amys are also giving out a special Jocelyn award, named after Gannon’s 13-year-old daughter, who the family described as their “picture-taker.” Jocelyn dreamed of pursuing a career in photography. That award is available for girls under 18 who are also interested in that field.
Have a few women in mind?
All you need is their name, contact information, and a quick explanation of which category they fits and why.
